Carlene and I went for a hike up the Megunticook St. Trail to the tower on Mt. Battie. It was very cold early, so we layered up:

Because she just climbed up this slope! Despite having a worse than normal bout of vertigo...Will.Power
We stopped on top of the slope and took a couple of pictures, here is a shot of Fred and Edith Bickford's home --can you spot it?
The trail is only 1/2 mile long, but very steep. We used to run all over this mountain as kids and never gave it a second thought... Years of too much pizza and beer have caught up with me.Here are a couple of shots of us at the tower:
Once again, we see just how small this place is compared to other places we've both lived over the years...
We walked down the hill on the road to the state park to make the distance more of a challenge, and then up Route 1 to Megunticook St. and up the last hill to the van. In total, it's about 3 miles, give or take. Definitely worth the effort!

David and I did that hike last summer when were were up for Uncle Kip's 80th birthday. I was surprised too by how steep it had become. It brought back many happy memories of climbing all over that mountain when we were kids. My pictures look much like yours...
